Fairy Tale Fun

Whilst visiting the Danish Island of Fyn a must is to visit the Funen Village in the Birth City of the Famous Children’s author Hans Christian Andersen. Every summer Children perform a Hans Christian Andersens story in the Open Air Theatre there.

This summer the story performed was the Tinderbox. The magical show lasts about 90 minutes and is performed entirely by talented chldren, singing & dancing. Around the edges are stalls selling popcorn, hot dogs, sweets, coffee and beer. Everyone brings their own blankets to sit on.

Investing in Winter Sales

Sale sign
Now is the time to take advantage of the great Winter offers that are out there for Children’s Clothes. Invest in some pieces for next year. Maybe quality brands that you wouldn’t normally buy because the price seems just a little bit too much to justify. Or a style that you child has enjoyed wearing this year and is likely to want to wear next year too.

Look for Children’s Winter Clothes that are in colours that would work well in the Summer months too. These will be perfect for the odd cold day you may get. Jersey cotton is a great fabric that works well for both Winter and Summer. For Girl’s there are lots of short sleeved Party dresses which can also be used for the summer.

If you are looking at shops online you may also find when looking through their sale pages, that the shop still has some items from the summer in the sale.

Shopping this way will enable you to justify spending more on some key pieces for your children when the next Winter season comes around. It also gives you the opportunity to try some clothes you wouldn’t normally buy to see the benefit of spending a little bit more on quality clothes that last and stay newer looking for longer. Just remember though to look through what you bought in the sales the previous year before you go out shopping for the new season!

Looking for childrens gifts

A bit late on this post as Top Drawer Gift Exhibition was a few weeks ago… I visited Top Drawer at Olympia in London to look for new unusual things to sell in my children’s shop. My first thought as I walked in was wow, thank goodness I don’t have a general gift shop, there is so much to see! It all looked beautiful. I walked past so many stands desperately trying to hold myself back from looking too closely as I sought out JUST the things that were for children! I found the visit very nostalgic too, bringing back memories of a childhood spent going to Top Drawer every year with my parents who exhibited Danish mobiles!

Our Macmillan Coffee Morning…

Wow what a day we had at our Macmillan Coffee Morning at Holme Grange Craft Village last Friday!

We had various stall holders all donating 10% of their takings to Macmillan, a raffle with prizes donated by the shops and the stall holders, cakes made by the shops for people to take and donate. Most importantly the weather was amazing, the sun was shining and lots of people came and made nearly £400 for Macmillan!

Royal Ascot Scarecrows!

We did our usual walk to the end of our road to see the Scarecrows the residents have put out to entertain the traffic heading to Royal Ascot. It has become a bit of a tradition every year with all the residents going to such great effort to make all the fantastic scarecrows and collect money from people on their way to the races for various local charities. My girls, along with lots of other locals love to go and have a look at the creations. The residents did a great job yet again this year with some fantastic creations. Gave me lots of ideas for the scarecrow I will be creating for the summer holidays here at Holme Grange Craft Village, where my shop is! Apparently last year they had scarecrows representing each shop lining the driveway and we are doing it again this year!

This is Bubble London June 2013, the children’s clothes exhibition I go to twice a year to view stock for forthcoming seasons. Holme Grange Kids holiday activites

I decided to let my kids try out all the fun sounding activities for children that were running during the Easter Holidays where my shop is at Holme Grange Craft Village, near Wokingham in Berkshire, UK

So we first tried designing t-shirts & hoodies at i-Prints. It took about an hour and the kids got to choose their item of clothing, what they wanted printed on it, the font of any lettering and the colours to be used. They then got see their design on the computer screen, saw it printing and had to peel off all the excess pieces from the cut out. They then saw their design being pressed onto their tops and finally got to stand proudly looking at themselves in the mirror with their new clothes! We went with their cousins, so had a mix of boys and girls ranging from 5 to 12 years. They all loved it, so I would conclude a great activity to do especially if you have a wide range of ages to cater for! I quite fancied doing one for myself too!

We then tried a Pasta making class at Delights of Italy, the kids got to make the pasta mix and then learnt how to make spaghetti and tagliatelle and pasta bows. The delight on their faces when the spaghetti came out of the pasta making machine was a picture! The very next day when shopping for food the girls were asking to buy some pasta flour so they could make more at home!

Then finally they did some pottery painting at Pottery Pals. They have done this before on numerous occasions but it never fails to be a winning activity for them! Pottery Pals have an extensive array of items to choose from. My mother in law was even inspired and painted something!

The clothing printing at i-Prints and ceramic painting at Pottery Pals is available all the time, you can just drop in. The pasta classes have to be booked and run throughout the school holidays and after school. Kids (and adult!) parties can be booked with all of them.

A highly recommended, by myself and my kids selection of creative activities! Holme Grange is a delightful village with 20 shops, a cafe and plenty of free parking. It has a friendly and peaceful atmosphere, making it a nice relaxing day out!

Raspberry Red is now a new Frugi stockist!

I am are delighted that Raspberry Red has become a new stockist for Frugi. Having used their clothes on my own children I know first hand how wonderful they are!

At Frugi they think that children’s clothes should be ‘full of beans’, just like the little ones who wear them! So, they always have rich and stylish colours for boys and girls alike, with fun appliqués and designs which reflect a child’s sense of humour.  Prints and patterns are eye-catching and will make a child stand out from the crowd.

Frugi give careful thought to every tiny little detail to make sure that their clothes are super comfy, fit brilliantly and allow children to move freely. All their baby clothes are ‘CUT4CLOTH’ which means they will fit over cloth nappies and disposables alike! The clothes are made from soft organic cotton and ethically manufactured in India, Turkey and Portugal.

These are a few of the delightful designs that we are stocking in the shop and on our website. Have a look we are stocking lots more too!
